NEW | UK campaign group Led By Donkeys has received £27,000 in compensation after a giant banner reading “Yes It’s A Genocide” was seized by Greater London Authority officials in Parliament Square and later destroyed, The Guardian reports.
The 40-metre by 40-metre banner, displayed in December 2024 during Israel’s genocide on Gaza, was created with the support of genocide scholar Prof. Amos Goldberg, who said the images and destruction in Gaza reflected what genocide looks like.
The group said the compensation was not about the money, but about defending the right to protest Israel’s attacks in Gaza, while stating that the British authorities are treating Palestine-related activism differently from other forms of protest.
